About Me
Joyce Witte, University of Iowa BFA
I graduated from a fine art school with a degree in design – before the world of graphics moved online to computers. We drew by hand, used brushes and ink for graphic layouts, and mixed our own colors. Now we crowd source logos and use templates for designs, but the basic training I got in the elements of design is enduring and lends itself to many formats and mediums.
The artist in me is expressed through photography and painting – often combining the two mediums to create unique, one-of-a-kind wall art pieces. I am fascinated by the illusion of depth in landscapes and like to draw the viewer in for a closer look. I use photo canvases for the basic image and hand-paint or color over the entire surface of the canvas, mixing and applying acrylic paint or oil pastels to create texture and depth, bring forward certain features, or diminish or blur the background. This process brings the image to life.
The designer in me is expressed through website design – building navigational pages online to help individuals, businesses and non-profits deliver their message, generate traffic (customers – donors) and solidify their brand. In the process of building a website, I may also design a logo, add my photography, or create a video. If the site is for a non-profit, I’ll share strategies for fundraising or donor recognition. It’s a very creative process!
In addition to building websites and selling my artwork, I also do photo portraits (head shots, engagement photos) and special occasion photography (weddings, birthdays); and electronic media for marketing (flyers, invitations, social media posts - see gallery). Send me an email for more information.
